To Reduce The Risk of Heart Attack in the Elderly

To reduce the risk of heart disease, everyone would agree that one way to do that is by exercising regularly. To do so, do not need to go to the gym, because the simple activities such as mowing the lawn or washing the car can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke by nearly 30 percent in people aged over 60 years.

Is a study in Sweden which showed that parents who are physically active when they live at home are healthier than those who only spend time in front of the TV or recliner. This was regardless of whether they also perform other formal exercises like jogging or workout in the gym.

" Everyday life is active, regardless of regular exercise or not, is closely related to heart health and longevity in the elderly. While sitting too long is definitely at risk of poor health, " the study authors said in a statement, as reported by DocMedico.

In this study, researchers collected nearly 4,000 people aged 60 years in 1997-1999. Then, their health was observed an average of 12.5 years. Participants noted how often they perform certain activities such as repairing houses, mowing lawns, washing cars, hunting, fishing, biking, and collecting fruit.

Researchers found that people with high physical activity, including regular exercise, have a 27 percent lower risk of heart disease than people who are not active. Their mortality risk was also 30 percent lower. According to the researchers, to promote non - formal physical activity such as mowing the lawn and washing the car in everyday life is as important as regular exercise recommended in the elderly.

" Need to improve the health of the population of elderly people, because today has been a shift in the demographic where increasingly aging population around the world. Though a variety of physical activity may be different in each country, depending on cultural background, " wrote the researchers.

In their study , the researchers also took into account other lifestyle factors that could affect results include alcohol consumption, education level, smoking habits, and diet.
