Martial Arts Athletes being "Ice Man" Because of a Rare Syndrome



When fever and chills body definitely feels very uncomfortable, especially if the body feels like freezing ? At least that's what happened to Mitch Gooch ( 36 ). Rare syndrome causes the body to martial arts athlete is like a block of ice. 


Gooch exposed Andersen - Tawil syndrome type 2 until he felt his body as if to continue to freeze. This happens because the potassium levels in the body drop dramatically to result Gooch difficult to talk, eat, and drink for the last decade. Gooch is one of 100 people in the world are affected by this syndrome.
  


Gooch also suffers from dwarfism and Russeell - Silver syndrome that interfere with its growth. Since being diagnosed in 2002, Gooch can find itself suddenly froze and events that can last for days. That's when she will turn into a ' human sculpture '. 


" I can only describe as something frozen. Know you can move, but can not do it. Feels your body like a block of ice. If the attack occurs during sleep, then from my waist down would be paralyzed until my potassium levels to normal, " the story Gooch. 


He added that if potassium levels are too high, he could have a heart attack, but if it is too low, it can be risky Gooch coma. The man who came from Hull will be given intravenous potassium if the attacks ' human sculpture ' was coming. At the age of 24 years, Gooch sleep and when you wake up all of his body was paralyzed and he could not move for a week. 


A year later, he did a blood test and the doctor diagnosed him with Andersen - Tawil syndrome after previously thought Gooch impaired growth. Since then Gooch had to use a wheelchair. 



Now, Gooch was treated by her partner, Amanda Hickling. They are also preparing a martial arts club in Hull. Gooch admitted he experienced disease will never bury his dream to develop the martial arts. Reported by the DocMedico, Gooch has established martial arts club in Scunthorpe in April last year. Slowly, he also taught martial arts to her students. He also coached Amanda to master the martial arts. 


" After the attack the man statue course I should be able to rehabilitate myself . Then I determined to teach the knowledge I have on others . 's Always been my dream , " said Gooch . 


" It is rather difficult to perform martial arts in a wheelchair , but I want to show others in circumstances like these , although I could do it . I am grateful to all colleagues , especially Amanda who has been taking care of me for this , " said Gooch . 


Andersen - Tawil syndrome can make muscle weakness, heart rhythm changes, and developmental abnormalities. People with this syndrome usually have physical abnormalities such as a smaller jaw and lower, dental abnormalities, the distance between the two eyes wider, short stature, and a curved spine. 60 percent of cases of Andersen - Tawil syndrome consists of a type that is caused due to genetic factors. While 40 per cent of cases of type 2 consists of the cause is not known.
